[ Mynaijakings Report] - The Minister of Water Resources, Mr Suleiman Adamu on Thursday reiterated Federal Government’s commitment to increase potable water supply for all Nigerians.Adamu, who said this while assuming duty at the ministry in Abuja, said the new administration’s mantra was change and it would be promoted to the benefit of all Nigerians.
He said there was the need for a special intervention on Nigeria’s water supply challenge.
According to him, Nigeria cannot achieve much in agriculture without managing its water resources.
“Water and agriculture are interrelated, without water; Nigeria cannot meet the food security goal.
“That is why this administration will carry out quick win projects that will make water available for all Nigerians,” he said.
Adamu said with his engineering background, activities at the ministry of water resources was a known terrain, saying with teamwork and commitment, the vision and mission would be achieved.
He promised to build on the successes and achievements recorded by his predecessor to enable the ministry take its pride of place in the country.
He said that the ministry would not embark on white elephant projects, which would not be beneficial to Nigerians.
According to him, all activities to be carried out will be within the limit of available resources.
“We are not here to waste government’s resources; every project that we will embark on in this ministry will pass through the required stages.
“At the end, it will be to the benefit of all Nigerians.”
The minister, however, urged development partners to continue to support the country in its water sector reform project, saying this would enable it meet the sustainable development goals on water and sanitation.
The newly-appointed Permanent Secretary, Hajiya Rabi Jimeta, pledged her commitment to work with all stakeholders in the ministry to promote the vision of the new administration.
She urged all Nigerians to continue to support the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari, saying “it will be for a greater good.” (NAN)
